Modular lighting for museum showcases

Feb. 21, 2024
Digital connectivity in a miniature package provides flexible lighting control for museums and galleries.

A luminaire suited for a small stage yet capable of optically protecting sensitive materials and colors, the Axis miniature spotlight is tailored for use in showcases, displays and dioramas in museums and galleries. The modular lighting system from ERCO offers high color rendering and is free of UV components to meet stringent conservation requirements.

The 1" spherical pan-and-tilt light heads utilize interchangeable lenses and filters that allow spot, flood and wide-flood light distributions. LED light color options include 2700 to 4000K with CRI 92 and 3000K with CRI 97. Wireless Bluetooth-based control using the company’s Casambi mobile app allows curators to make lighting adjustments in real-time.

The miniature light heads can be used in one-, two- and four-gang semi-recessed luminaire housings integrated into the showcase or via the modular system’s surface, plate or stem mounting. Stem mounting allows the height of the light points to be adjusted. Magnetic holders secure the light heads and provide mechanical and electrical connections. The stem-and surface-mounted magnetic modules can be rotated 360° around the cylindrical axis and the light heads can be swiveled through 270°. Semi-recessed models pivot through 140°.

Further customization is possible with clip-on accessories such as blue light filters, soft focus and sculpture lenses, and anti-glare attachments.

Axis is the only ENEC- and UL-certified showcase lighting currently on the market, according to ERCO.
