At Collin College Technical Campus in Allen, Texas, a dramatic cantilever catches the eye along the horizon. Situated at the main entrance of the four-building campus, the 50-foot cantilever of Building A hosts academic spaces and the library for the campus, which offers courses in automotive, construction, electronics, HVAC, health care, and welding for students seeking career opportunities in the technical and skilled trades. Global architecture firm Perkins&Will designed the project, which was built by general contractor McCarthy and completed in 2020.
To showcase the expansive cantilever at night, the design team specified Targetti’s Jedi Recessed linear in-grade luminaires, which are capable of illuminating large architectural spaces. The upward-facing, luminaires are recessed into the terrace deck and spaced in a linear configuration that traces the perimeter of the cantilever above. The fixtures project light onto the surface above, forming a gentle gradient from the surface edges inward and creating the ethereal glow seen from afar.
Jedi comes in three lengths—24, 36, and 48 inches—and in four color temperatures: 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K. It is IP68, IP9K, and IK10 rated and available in both a projector and recessed version.
