DLC Controls Summit 2023 registration is open

July 28, 2023
The Sept. 26-27 event in Detroit is themed “Unlocking the Potential of Networked Lighting Controls.”

Networked lighting controls (NLCs) can boost a project’s energy savings by an average of 49% compared with what’s possible through the switch to LEDs alone, according to the DesignLights Consortium. However, NLCs have less than 1% market penetration—1%!

The DLC is aware of the obstacles to adopting NLCs, which include the lack of incentives, complex system architecture, low interoperability, and lack of education and sales training. On Sept. 26-27, the nonprofit organization plans to discuss these challenges and identify “a plan to escape the cycle of frustration” collectively with attendees at the 2023 DLC Controls Summit, in Detroit.

The summit welcomes everyone from DLC members to utility energy efficiency program staff and implementers, lighting control manufacturers and representatives, control installers, and decarbonization advocates. The formal informational and educational programming will take place largely on Sept. 27. Topics include the integration of NLC systems with HVAC systems and controls, the diminishing potential of efficiency incentives due to the increasing efficiency of light sources, and an interactive escape room challenge in which “small teams of attendees will put themselves in a trade ally’s shoes and configure an NLC system” under the clock.

The early bird rate for registering for the 2023 DLC Controls Summit ends Sept. 5.
