In the natatorium of the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center, HLB Lighting Design created a custom solution to address concerns from back-strokers about being blinded by overhead lights. “The truss system in the aquatics area was a custom solution that we created to light the space,” says Amy Huan, Associate at HLB Lighting Design. “It’s two fixtures mounted to a system that gives you the ability to light the ceiling and light the pool, without having fixtures over the pool.”
For the uplighting, HLB specified the Echo Round 9.0, which efficiently delivers high-performance indirect lighting. It effectively illuminates large, open spaces from the perimeter, making it ideal for the Rec Center’s pool. It has high lumen packages and a forward throw of smooth, uniform light.
