MDU development recently completed a 156-unit net-zero village complex in Rotterdam, N.Y. The complex uses submetering from Leviton, including its new Load Center, to remotely monitor energy use for each apartment. This allows staff to see comparisons in HVAC and energy usage, and detect variances, which can sometimes point to malfunctioning equipment, or units consuming excess energy. Yet it’s unobtrusive, and as project developer David Bruns points out, the load center is right in plain view. “It’s a great improvement over the stodgy load centers of the past.”
